MOAB HALF

Rebecca and I signed up for the Moab half last year and we thought a bunch of our other friends were signing up too. Turns out we were the only ones! So we made a nice little romantic roomie trip out of it. She had been living at her Mom's studying for the GMAT so it was nice to hang out for the weekend. We had fun catching up on our hot dating lives we lead. We got a ghetto little motel room where neither of us touched the floor with our barefoot or touched the comforter. Better than camping in my car though. Bonus...I was able to watch the UW win!

6AM. Ready to kick it.

Rebecca and her new hat.

Waiting for 2 hours at the start line.
I was board enough that I studied for the GMAT too.

MOTOI YAMAMOTO

I was immediately in awe of the mazing work by Motoi Yamamoto. I found it here.
I loved this quote by the artist and why he was inspired to do this kind of work and why he keeps doing it. It's particularly relevant to my mom and family right now.
This is all out of salt....
so sad!

The mainspring of my work is derived from the death of my sister from brain cancer at the age of 24 in the winter of 1994.
Since then, I have had the dilemma, in grief and surprise, of thinking about what I had and lost. I started making art works that reflected such feelings and continue it as if I were writing a diary.
Many of my works take the form of labyrinths with complicated patterns, ruined and abandoned staircases or too narrow life-size tunnels, and all these works are made with salt.
A common perception towards them is "nearly reachable, yet not quite" or "nearly conceivable, yet not quite".
Memories seem to change and vanish as time goes by. However, what I sought for was the way in which I could touch a precious moment in my memories which cannot be attainable through pictures or writings.

christmas decoration

First year of my life I have ever put anything up for Christmas.
I actually put up a little tree and made the garland from felt balls I got in Spain.

In my dreams I wish I was a twin...

Millcreek Canyon, Desolation Hike
Same coat and snow pants. Unplanned.
Beautiful night... out of the SMOGGGG.
